Recovery Coach NDIS: Your Questions Answered
Navigating the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can be complex, especially when it comes to finding the right support for your recovery journey. As an NDIS suitable provider and recovery coach, I often get questions about how to access recovery coaching services through the NDIS. So, let’s break it down:
What is a Recovery Coach?
A recovery coach is a trained professional who walks alongside you on your journey to recovery from addiction, mental health challenges, or other life disruptions. We offer guidance, support, and accountability as you:
- Identify your goals: What does recovery mean to you? What do you want to achieve?
- Develop a recovery plan: We’ll work together to create a roadmap for your journey, with clear steps and strategies.
- Overcome challenges: We’ll help you navigate obstacles, build resilience, and develop coping mechanisms.
- Connect with resources: We can link you with other NDIS suitable supports, community services, and treatment options.
- Build a fulfilling life: Recovery is about more than just overcoming challenges; it’s about creating a life you love.
How Can NDIS Help?
If you have an NDIS plan, recovery coaching may be funded under your Capacity Building supports, specifically under “Improved Daily Living.” This funding helps you develop skills and strategies to manage your disability and live more independently.
Am I Eligible for NDIS Funding?
To be eligible for NDIS funding, you must meet the following criteria:
- Age: You must be under 65 years old.
- Residency: You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category visa.
- Disability: You must have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to participate in everyday activities.
- Support Needs: You must require support from the NDIS to live a full and meaningful life.
How Do I Access Recovery Coaching through NDIS?
- Contact the NDIS: Discuss your needs and goals with your NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC).
- Find a provider: Look for a recovery coach who fits the NDIS recommendations.
Remember, I am a NDIS suitable provider for self managed funding (read more here). If you have a managed NDIS plan you must go through a provider that is registered with the NDIS directly, this is not me. I can only provide NDIS services to individuals on a self managed plan who can choose non registered NDIS providers to suit their individual needs. Consider switching your NDIS funding to self managed).
- Develop your plan: Work with me as your recovery coach and NDIS planner to include recovery coaching in your NDIS plan.
