Self Managed NDIS Funding for Recovery Coaching

Navigating the NDIS can feel like a maze, especially when it comes to understanding your funding options and finding the right support. If you’re looking for a codependency recovery coach and your NDIS plan is either plan-managed or self-managed, you have the flexibility to choose your provider. This means you can work with an unregistered NDIS provider like myself.

Why Choose Self-Managed Funding?

You can:

  • Choose your providers: You’re not limited to registered NDIS providers. This opens up a world of possibilities, allowing you to work with specialists like me who might not be directly registered with the NDIS.
  • Flexibility and personalization: You can tailor your supports to your specific needs and goals.
  • Directly manage your budget: You have control over how your funds are allocated, giving you more financial autonomy.
  • Pay for a wider range of supports: Compared to Agency-managed plans, you may have more flexibility on what you can spend your funding on, as long as it aligns with your plan’s goals.

How to Switch to Self-Managed Funding:

Switching to a self-managed NDIS plan is a straightforward process and involves these steps:

  1. Express your interest: Let the NDIS know that you are interested in self-managing your plan. You can do this by calling them, informing your planner or local area coordinator or using the myplace participant portal.
  2. Attend a meeting: The NDIS will then organise a meeting with you to talk about self-management, determine if it’s right for you and help get you started.
  3. Consider a self-management peer support group: The NDIS can help put you in touch with a self-management peer support group.
  4. Develop a budget: Plan how you will allocate your funds to meet your support needs.
  5. Set up a bank account: This dedicated account will hold your NDIS funds.
  6. Maintain records: Keep track of your expenses and receipts for NDIS auditing purposes.

The NDIS website states: “If you are interested in self-management, let us know by speaking with your planner, local area coordinator, early childhood partner or the NDIA National Contact Centre. We can also help put you in touch with a self-management peer support group.”

Working with Me:

As a codependency recovery coach, I specialize in helping individuals overcome challenges related to codependency and addiction. My services fall under the NDIS category of “capacity building – support coordination and/or psychosocial recovery coaches.” If you have a self-managed NDIS plan, you can utilize your funding to access my services.

Remember: If you have an agency-managed NDIS plan, you must work with a registered NDIS provider. However, I encourage you to consider switching your funding to self-managed to gain greater control over your recovery journey.
