Hi Everyone, welcome back. I am Roslyn SaundersCodependency and Addiction Coach Specialist.

Today, I wanted to address a question I received this week from someone considering coaching. She asked about the cost, which is a very valid question, and I totally understand that. So, I want to talk about the cost of coaching and the cost of not doing coaching.

In response to her question, I actually wrote out what I sent back to her in terms of cost. I know from working with clients who have invested in their coaching that it has been returned many times over. What I mean by that is we don’t realize how much we’re actually spending on our codependency. People could probably add up the cost of cigarettes, alcohol, or even heroin and say, “I was spending… usually you hear about it after they’ve given up, and they say, ‘I realized I was spending $150 a week on cigarettes, or maybe more.'” They can quantify that.

So, within my coaching, as we go along, I get people to journal the changes we’re making. I like to start making changes straight away, even if they’re small, so people have evidence that the coaching is working and their investment of time and commitment is worthwhile. I want it to be worthwhile for them, and I want my time and commitment to be worthwhile for me as well.

I have them journal in the back of their workbook each time they make a change. Let’s say a parent is giving far too much money to their children, which is hindering their children’s growth and not allowing them to become responsible. Each time they have the courage to say no, even if it’s just on a small level to start with, we journal how much they would have given them. And I can tell you, it adds up to quite a lot, usually at least the cost of coaching and often far more.

Just to finish off, we are spending a lot more money than we realize on our codependency. As we pull back on that, it means we have the money to invest in ourselves, maybe in mentors or to start doing nice things for ourselves.

Another one of my strategies is to ask people to start giving themselves little rewards. It usually starts with something small, like buying themselves a $10 bunch of flowers. Do you know how hard that is for some people? It was very hard for me to actually spend money on myself. We’re all very good at giving to everyone else, but it’s very hard to start turning that back on ourselves. That’s what I do in my coaching, in bite-sized pieces. We start very small and gradually work our way up to bigger things.

So, the topic of this was about the cost. I can assure you and guarantee that you would get the cost of your coaching back and more. As I said, we journal it so you can see the evidence yourself. It’s no use me seeing the evidence; you need to see it in your own life, the evidence that the coaching is working and that you’re saving money too, if that’s a factor in your decision.

I hope that helps for this week.
